Welcome to Arbor Chess. Here is our story!

In the fall of 1997, Ray Garrison, our CEO, purchased a chess store on Main Street in Ann Arbor, Michigan “Chess Express”. He also taught in public and private schools where he successfully led many chess programs to team win in state championships.

Ray sold the store and made Arbor Chess a full time business where he added school chess programs and private instruction, Ray then expanded his staff and classes throughout Michigan and offered highly successful summer day camps program for over 20 years.

In 2021, Arbor Chess has transitioned to 100% virtual chess classes, lessons and camps for the entire US and we have continued to enjoy wonderful success and continue to garner rave reviews by the children and their parents.

Our secret is that every instructor teaching chess is an excellent teacher first, providing students with the best experience possible. As we grow throughout the U.S., we all look forward to sharing our passions for chess with a new generation.
